In New Mill (near Holmfirth), the conversion to apartments of a bleaching,
dyeing and
mercerising
mill made available both the workshop machinery and a steam-powered generating set. These were offered to Ellenroad.
The workshop (which dates from the late 19th century) was powered originally from the mill’s beam engine via
line-shafting and our plan is to re-create
this arrangement at Ellenroad. There are two lathes, three drilling machines, two threading machines, a shaper/planer and a grinder.
The 250 horsepower generating set (built by W H Allen) was installed at Wildspur Mills in 1949 but dates from 1911.
It replaced the beam engines which powered the mill until that time.
These several tons of workshop and 14 tons of generator are now rescued and lie at Ellenroad. The workshop will be rebuilt in our existing buildings
but we shall need an extension for the generator and its switchgear.
